Most players who have played any RPG style video game in the past will instantly be familiar with the content found in Marvel: Avengers Alliance 2 for Android. This app includes engaging combat in the classic RPG style, which means the player will select three characters from their roster to take into a battle against three of the game's villains. The action is turn-based, much like the popular style made famous by Japanese RPGs, but it includes characters straight out of the Marvel universe.

Those who do have experience with this genre will be able to pick up the game with relative ease. In fact, the game is so similar to other turn-based RPGs that the tutorials even feel a bit extraneous. The training tutorial can be helpful in certain instances since there are elements of this game that are unique, but the tutorial also presents the action in slow, methodical ways that can be tedious to those with any experience. After the tutorial, the player should have a complete handle on the characters, move types, and the entire combat system in general.

While there is a lot of content in this game, there aren't many examples of stand-out additions that push this game into another category. The player must simply wait through a back-and-forth series of moves between his or her own team and the enemy team, and selecting a move followed by tapping the target will deal damage and trigger small animations that signify the attack. Some of the villains are nothing more than standard video game bad guys, but others are more iconic and recognizable.

Many people might shrug off this game since it has no real originality, but that would be a mistake, especially for the hardcore Marvel fans. Players can improve their characters by earning experience, and it is a lot of fun to go through the roster of available characters to see what sort of moves they have and their overall potential. Even secondary characters like Hawk Eye and Gamora are playable, and each has their own unique set of moves. This first time you get to shoot Spider-Man's webbing at Dr. Octopus is a huge step forward and makes the game tons of fun. The available moves are all listed at the bottom of the touchscreen interface, and the game explains the function of each move so players can be sure to use a good variety.

Of course, this game includes a number of in-app purchases that can help the player progress their characters at a much quicker rate, but those require real-world currency that many players would rather avoid spending. The game gets a bit tedious after a while without using such purchases, but the combat system generally stays fresh and fun despite the lack of originality.
